Pediatric Surgery is a discipline that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and/or acquired surgical conditions of the respiratory, digestive, and genitourinary systems in children, from the neonatal period through adolescence (0–17 years).

Children are not simply “small adults.” The pediatric period has its own unique physiology, conditions, and diseases. These differ according to age groups and must be evaluated in relation to a child’s growth, development, physiology, and psychology. Conditions requiring surgical intervention should be assessed by pediatric surgeons, who determine and apply the most appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

The results of surgical interventions performed during childhood can affect patients for their entire lives. For this reason, such procedures must be carried out by highly trained pediatric surgeons who have undergone rigorous training, mastered modern treatment techniques, and are capable of initiating the best treatment in a timely manner.

Frequently Asked Question

Sıkça Sorulan Sorular

Pediatric surgery focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired surgical conditions in children, from newborns to adolescents. Because children have unique physiology and developmental needs, surgical care must be specialized to ensure safe and effective long-term outcomes.

The department treats a wide range of conditions, including digestive system disorders, respiratory problems, genitourinary anomalies, congenital malformations, trauma, pediatric cancers, hormonal disorders, head and neck conditions, and burn injuries. Each case is managed according to the child’s age, growth, and overall health.

Newborn conditions such as esophageal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, anorectal malformations, and abdominal wall defects (omphalocele or gastroschisis) are carefully evaluated and treated by specialized pediatric surgeons using advanced diagnostic and surgical techniques.
